Your safety is important. You don’t hesitate to take a martial defense course or carry pepper spray around to protect yourself. Have you ever thought of using public records for your safety?
First of all, do you know what you can find in public records? A public records search can give you all information that the government has on a person. You can find free public records of marriage, divorce, births, deaths, property purchases, driver’s license, and even any actions that have occurred in the legal system.
Of all these, you can use most to protect yourself. For example, let’s say that you live in Broward County, Florida. A man has moved in down the hall and has let you know that he is interested in being more than just a neighbor. You are not too adverse to this, but something is banging around in your brain. Something is not quite right, but you don’t know what it is. Go to the Broward County public records and look into this guy. If he is from another county or state, check out their public records.
The results of your public records search could show him as being married, a fake name, or even a felon who preys on women. If that is the case, you now know to stay away and maybe even notify your landlord and/or police. If you find nothing in your search, you will have reassurance that nothing showed up that would make you turn down an offer for dinner and coffee.
Never assume that what you see is what you get. Investigate. There are free public records out there for you to use to protect yourself. Your safety is important. Public records are just one of the many resources out there for you to use to stay safe and alert.
