When you realize that you can access free public records, you begin to think of why you would and what you would gain out of it. When it comes to local public records, there are many reasons that you would perform the search.
1. Property Title – There might be a time when you want to know who owns a piece of property. This information is part of the public records that you have access to. You might just want to contact the owner or you might be looking to purchase the property. Looking up the owner of a piece of property is part of the public records search.
2. School research – Many times, school children are asked to do research on their own state or town. Using those free public records is a great way to get that information. Let’s say that you live in Broward County, Florida. You would guide your child through the Broward County public records to discover the history behind the county and what role it played in shaping the state and maybe even the country.
3. Genealogy – Going through public records is anyone interested in genealogy. You can find so much information on your family such as marriages, births, and even census data.
4. Local history society – Most towns have a local history society. They are always doing public records search to find out more of their town’s history. The end result of much of this research is typically a book that details out how the town was founded and how it has grown over the years.

It is amazing what comes from all those free public records. They reveal so much to us that we can use to expand our own knowledge of ourselves and our hometown.
