Why You Should Search Public Records

Many of us never think about doing a public records search. We don’t know why we should ever do it. Here are a few reasons that we should be using those public records.

Reason #1 – Free Public Records

No one can pass up anything that is free. That is why we should be doing a public records search when researching or looking at someone’s background. These are free public records. Unless they are sealed by a court or there is a law regarding types of records for living people, these are free for us to look at.

Reason #2 – Genealogy

When we research genealogy, we are accessing those public records. Say family is from Florida. We could search the Broward County public records for marriage, birth, death, and divorce records as well as deeds, census records, and so forth.  Most of these are free public records that help us gather all the information we need on our family’s history.

Reason #3 – Safety

Included in the free public records are criminal records. For safety reasons, we can check someone’s criminal past. This is important from hiring an employee all the way to dating someone. You can even find out if they are still married. It all comes down to using public records to make sure that we are not getting ourselves into hot water. Not a good thing.

Reason #4 – History

Just researching the history of a family or of a city involves accessing those free public records. This can be such a fun time as people and events are explored. Doing a public records search can be fun as new information is discovered. Compiling a book on a town’s history or even our own families can be extremely fun and heavily dependent on those public records.
